#tokfriday: Language, meaning, and #Baltimorerising

The RSL:

In the past two weeks, Baltimore, Maryland has became the newest city in the United States to experience civil unrest, pitting citizens against police departments. Baltimore's problems come on the heels of unrest in Ferguson, MO. Media has been using different words to describe these events: protests, uprisings, civil unrest, riots to name a few. How do these word choices affect our understanding?
